Portuguese artist Marta Pereira Da Costa stopped by Studio 1a on the eve of SXSW and with her Portuguese guitar. The Portuguese guitar is a double six-stringed, teardrop-shaped guitar used in Portuguese Fado music. Da Costa is currently the only professional female Fado guitarist worldwide and the first to perform at SXSW. The Portuguese guitar creates the traditional Fado sound and is also used by Da Costa to create new rhythms and sounds. Her time in North America wrapped up March 16th but we are anxiously waiting on her return to our Studio. Until then, you can listen to the audio from her time at KUTX below.
