It’s impossible to talk about Dallas’ Medicine Man Revival without mentioning that other North Texas purveyor of groundbreaking funk. You know…the one with a big family and badass clothes. Medicine Man Revival vocalist Keite Young and producer/arranger Jason Burt manage to pull the best page from the Sly Stone’s book and turn funk music on its head by adding elements of hip-hop, electronica, and soul. To borrow a tactic from the movie industry, imagine Andre 300, Charles Bradley, and Madlib starting a band and you’ll get a sense of the futuristic funk and soul coming from this genre-bending duo. The band stopped by Studio 1A to play a few songs before their first show of a June residency at Swan Dive. Dare you to listen to just one.
