Michael Fracasso 9.15.16

If you close your eyes and try to imagine the quintessential Austin singer/songwriter, you will probably conjure up somebody like Michael Fracasso. Hailing from Ohio originally, Fracasso landed in Austin in 1990 after a stint in NYC under the wing of blues legend Doc Pomus. In interviews, Fracasso says it was a Spin article on Austin music and the wild sounds coming from bands like the Butthole Surfers and True Believers that planted the seed for his move. It was certainly a good fit, few people embody the collaborative, exploratory, easy going spirit of the early 1990s Austin music scene more than Michael Fracasso. Over his 25 plus years in the Live Music Capital of the World, he has released nine albums, teamed up with Patti Griffin and Lucinda Williams, and even published a cookbook. His latest album, Here Come the Savages, is more personal than previous releases with some surprising covers.

Take a listen to Michael Fracasso’s session from Studio 1A at the bottom of this post, including a great version of the The Kinks “Better Things”.
