Milton Mapes finally reunites after 10 years. This Austin-based group, which formed in 1999, had a successful run and produced several great records before they went a slightly different direction and turned into Monahans. Fortunately, these musicians have not stopped playing as individuals as well as collaborating on music. Milton Mapes is a touch of earthy western, with echoing distorted guitars and clear, lucid lyricism. It borders the lawless sense of rock-and-roll and the dessert space of country, perhaps a love child of Neil Young and The Boss.
Whether you’re a big fan or you’ve never heard of Milton Mapes, now is a great time to re-listen to these wonderful records because this Saturday, July 30th, there will be a very rare Milton Mapes show at the Continental Club. The group will be performing their 2003 ablum, “Westernaire” in its entirety and Pleasant Grove will play a set beforehand.
