Mipso 6.26.17

Toe tapping, thigh slapping and sweetly Southern Mipso are back in Austin, and we couldn’t be happier. Originally formed as a trio in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2012 the intervening years have seen the release of three albums and the inclusion of a fourth member thickening up their sound. Mipso’s latest release, Coming Down the Mountain, has the group doubling down on their experimentation with the traditional string-band format; combining Americana folk with a sharp tang of alt-country and modern rock. They remain endearingly earnest with their tender four part harmonies, however this album feels richer and darker. Fiddle cuts like a knife across emotionally wrought tracks and drums beat their way through the album; it is music that burns bright and powerful. Luckily they had time to swing past Studio 1A and lay down some tracks before their release show at Cactus Cafe. Missed the session? Fear not we’ve got it right here!
