Julia Jacklin 6.4.19

Melbourne Australia’s roster of musical talent continues to grow, and Julia Jacklin’s sophomore record Crushing may be the best breakup record to ever come out of that city. Over ten tracks Jacklin quietly dissolves a two year long relationship with shockingly earnest lyricism.

The gambit of emotions that come in the wake of a longterm relationship are spread on the table–bitterness, resent, despondence; but the way she distills these feelings into heartrending yet simple phrases really set Jacklin’s new record apart. On her dream pop ballad “I Don’t Know How to Keep Loving You,” she pines over the the comfort that familiarity brings while simultaneously knowing it’s time to for the relationship to end. Behind the resigned crunch of her guitar she sings, “I want your mother to stay friends with mine.”

Her album is filled with more great lyrics and music, and so is her Studio 1A performance! Check it below.
