Nikki Lane 10.19.17

Singer-songwriter  Nikki Lane is making 1960’s country-pop for a modern audience with a whole lot of southern charm and just a dash of that devil-may-care sensibility. Originally from South Carolina, Nikki Lane dropped out of high school and moved to LA where she worked as a fashion designer for much of her early adulthood. After moving to New York, and enduring a particularly bad breakup, Lane picked up a guitar as a form of therapy; punching out a few heartsick yet sassy country songs. What started as a hobby quickly snowballed into an obsession, and she moved yet again; this time to Nashville. She released her first EP in 2011, followed quickly by full length Walk of Shame. Her third album and latest release, Highway Queen, written in the wake of a failed marriage, was recorded between Texas and Tennessee. The record showcases Lane’s signature blend of modern guitar-blues and vintage 60’s country pop; all held together by poignant lyrics and Lane’s stony vocals. It is beautiful and profound; Lane proves herself a musical pioneer at the forefront of modern country. We were lucky enough to host Nikki Lane in Studio 1A ahead of her show at the Historic Scoot Inn. Check out the full session below!
