Perhaps the most apt description of the multi-talented Patricia Vonne comes from the Austin-American Statesman, who dubbed her “a Tex-Mex spitfire with a rock ‘n’ roll heart”. A Tex-Mex spitfire, indeed, Vonne was raised in San Antonio, and after a stint in New York in the early 2000s, she moved to her current home in Austin. Vonne just released her fifth album Rattle My Cage, a mix of rock, blues, and flamenco rhythms with a bit of a darker undercurrent than her previous albums. The album is undecidedly tough and edgy, and her Latin rocker roots shine throughout. Vonne is inspired by artists like Rosie Flores, Johnny Reno, and Alejandro Escovedo, and she collaborated with Escovedo to craft one of the stand-out songs on the album, ”Ravage Your Heart”.
You can also catch Vonne when she plays a few gigs in Austin during December, including a “birthday show” at The Continental Club with Alejandro Escovedo on December 14 and the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar on December 18.
