The daughter of a folk singer and a poet, Austin folk singer-songwriter Raina Rose possesses a lovely, self-assured voice that bewitches anyone who listens. A self-described blonde-headed Jewish witch who fittingly runs an apothecary on the side, Rose is preparing to release her sixth studio album, Vesta. Out on January 31, Vesta is named for the Roman goddess of the hearth that is symbolized by fire and is a collection of Rose’s musings on beauty, feminity, and motherhood. Her enchanting voice spotlights lyrics that ring with poetry as she sings of finding the quiet beauty in her surroundings while doing things as mundane as taking out the trash. Rose dropped by Studio 1A to give a sneak peek of her new material. She additionally played the acoustic guitar and was accompanied by Andrew Pressman on electric bass and Sweet Gary Newcomb on pedal steel for a delightful set. To celebrate Vesta, Rose is playing an album release show on Saturday, February 1, at the Cactus Cafe with guest John Elliot.
