Performer, author, and singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin has been a consistent light and melodic voice in contemporary folk.
After moving to town at a young age and joining the Western swing collective Dixie Diesels, Shawn Colvin moved away, eventually becoming a well-known name in the 1980’s New York’s folk circuit and receiving a Grammy for her debut album Steady On. Combining her folk sensibilities with pop melodies, a touch of alternative rock, an occasional twang, and crisp production, Colvin has released a multitude of records and received numerous accolades since moving back to Austin in the ’90’s. Her unadorned folk-rock has continued to develop over the years, with her previous album, All Fall Down, taking the form of an honest and sparse look at loss and resolution with Bill Frisell on guitar, Viktor Krauss on bass, and Brian Blade on drums, as well as guest appearances by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Allison Krauss, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Jakob Dylan, and Stuart Duncan. Colvin is set to release a collection of covers, entitled Uncovered, this September.
You can catch Shawn Colvin on Saturday, July 25th at One World Theatre or stream her right here at KUTX!
