Andrew Sims, founding member of the Minneapolis hip-hop collective Doomtree, stepped away from the group just long enough to record and tour behind his new solo album, More Than Ever. More than his previous solo projects, SIMS’ characteristically raw emotive lyricism is turned inwards to tackle personal feelings of loss and sadness. SIMS uses that brash, cutting, sometimes whimsical delivery to maximum effect in songs like “Brutal Dance”, where he wrestles his feelings into a kind of personal mission statement.
SIMS and band stopped by Studio 1A after their show in San Antonio. Take a listen to their full session and watch the video of “Brutal Dance” below!
