There is absolutely nothing rusty or sloth-like about Brooklyn’s Slothrust. In fact, Slothrust makes it a point to jump from glam-grunge to spoken word-prog rock and everywhere in between in the course of a single song. On songs “Horseshoe Crab” and “Like a Child Hiding Behind Your Tombstone”, vocalist and chief songwriter Leah Wellbaum begins with a conversational tone before drummer Will Gorin and guitarist Kyle Bann launch the songs into a full-blown rock ‘n’ roll jams. It’s in these explosive sonic moments that Slothrust’s impressive musicality really shines through, like a jam band but with none of the tedious buildup, just the jam. We caught up with Slothrust after their gig at Barracuda. Listen to the session from Studio 1A in the player at the bottom of the post.
