South Austin Moonlighters 7.21.16

South Austin Moonlighters formed as sort of a supergroup from a few bands (Shurman, Deadman, Mother Truckers & Stonehoney) one SXSW back in 2011. They started the group as a way to “moonlight” on their other gigs, and have a bit of fun playing some tunes with their musician crushes. To me, what truly sticks out is the musicianship of each individual in the group. It is evident in their writing, the way they play off one another, and their harmonies, but it doesn’t hurt that the members have had experience with musicians such as Bo DiddleyFastball and Papa Mali.  Their sound is a nice bluesy-soulful take on classic Texas Americana, and it is really some of the best music you can hear around town.

The South Austin Moonlighters dropped by Studio 1A to give us a little taste of what’s to come this weekend at their CD release party. The show will be on Saturday, July 23rd at The Backstage  (El Mercado on South 1st), and things will be kicking off around 8 pm. For enjoy, enjoy their session below!
