Stop Motion Orchestra 9.12.16

Austin group Stop Motion Orchestra dropped by Studio 1A to showcase some fresh material in support of their headlining spot at this weekend’s Voyager Music Festival. Impossible to pigeonhole, Stop Motion Orchestra describe their sound as “instrumental art rock”, drawing from eclectic influences like Indian classical music, to metal and jazz. It’s a kind of beautiful musical chaos, where violins and clarinets converse wildly over a torrent of bass and drums. Composer and band leader Mohadev crafts the intricate arrangements that leave listeners stunned and wondering how music could… do that.

The band is headlining the festival this Sunday the 18th, following a weekend of music workshops and performances by some of Austin’s most original groups. More info on the festival here. Check out our conversation with the band as well as their performance below.
