It’s been awhile since we’ve heard a debut album that sounds as fully realized as Sun June’s Years. For founding members Stephan Salisbury (vocals/guitar) and Laura Colwell (vocals/keys) that seemingly innate ability to create melancholy pop music grew out of their shared experiences working together in Austin’s film industry. Borrowed instruments quickly led to first songs and interest from other Austin musicians. The addition of Sarah Schultz’s delicate percussion, slow burn bass licks from Justin Harris, and bright guitars from Michael Bain give Colwell’s soft, earnest vocals the perfect landscape to unfold. Sun June stopped by Studio 1A to play a few tunes off the new album, share details of their upcoming release show and first tour.
