Los Angeles’s The Dream Syndicate is riding high after the release of their album These Times, their second album since their 2012 reunion nearly thirty years after they influenced California’s paisley underground scene. As for the concept behind the album, lead vocalist and songwriter Steve Wynn explained, “These Times. That’s it. It is all we’re talking about, all we’re thinking about. There is no avoiding the existential panic of a world that’s hurtling somewhere quickly, evolving, and shifting course by the hour.” The lyrics in the album bluntly show the state of panic, mania, and speculation concerning the current times. Meanwhile, the sonic style of the album show the group’s fearlessness to dip into modern influences, including pop beats and dance grooves. Imbued with their classic rhythmic guitars and transcendent subject matter, These Times is the group’s most adventurous work to date.
The Los Angeles quartet played an exclusive show for our concert club before they took the stage at 3Ten ACL Live. Check out the live performance below!
