Local band, The Sanco Loop, is a melting pot of some the best musicians Austin has to offer. Frontman Peter Wagman started out in the 90’s playing post-punk along 6th street, and by the late 2000s his bashy-indie band, The Mercers, were staples of the Austin music scene. Wagner ditched Austin indie-pop in favor of West Texas ranches and twangy originals. Between playing honky-tonks and working oilfields he released a solo record; Grasshopper. Wagner returned to Austin, by way of Boise, ID and Texarkana, with a newborn son and a new musical iteration; The Sanco Loop. The band is made up of Carey Bowman (The Coffee Sergeants), Ethan Herr (The Mercers) and bassist extraordinaire Augie Gmitter. Their self-titled debut album is thick with pedal steel, looped drum beats and Wagner’s haunting vocals. It is red dirt country for the modern world. The crew stopped past Studio 1A ahead of their Cactus Cafe release show. Check out the full session below!
