Make Out King and Other Stories of Love (2014), that’s the title of the latest album from Houston band, The Tontons. It’s sort of the feel too. While their sound is somewhat hard to sum up, Asli Omar‘s swelling and falling vocal crescendos might make you fall in love. Her voice is interesting–traces of Amy Winehouse, stylistically speaking, and even Bjork in terms of some of her choices in vocal harmonies; neither comparison, however, is a great indication of her overall sound. As any review will tell you, their sound is all their own. The guitar driven indie-rock undulates, and it can also follow a steadfast beat like a Stroke’s song. We’ve called it “lushly arranged, but edgy and adventurous” and “perfect for a steamy Sunday afternoon.” Listen to their performance with us RIGHT HERE!
