It’s hard to resist the uplifting funk-infused soul music of Austin-based group Tomar & the FCs. The band covers familiar soul themes like community and devotion with contagious energy and a freshness that instantly gets feet tapping to the beat. The band is led by singer Tomar Williams who grew up in the thick of the music scene, getting his start in a family band that even toured Austin in the mid-80s and played iconic venues from Antone’s Nightclub to The Continental Club. Tomar & the FCs’ new album, Rise Above, has been years in the making and is out this Saturday, February 1, with a release show that night at Antone’s — a full circle for Williams. The show will kick off with a Stax Records tribute set featuring Kevin Russell (Shinyribs), The Watters, Sheree Smith, Soul Man Sam and Courtney Santana. With the tribute performance, Tomar & the FCs hope to honor the sounds that have inspired their own music. Ahead of the show, Tomar & the FCs swung by Studio 1A to give a hand-clapping and heartful after-hours live set. Come celebrate Rise Above, the start of Love Austin Music Month and Stax Records this Saturday night with music starting at 10 p.m.

Tomar & the FCs is comprised of Tomar Williams, Andy Tenberg, Mitch Fischels, Paul Kresowik, and Eric Baker.
