Wes Denzel 12.14.21

Michael Minasi

Among all the successful talent emerging from Central Texas – Waco’s Hi-Five, San Marcos’ BROCKHAMPTON, Austin’s Gary Clark Jr. and Black Pumas – you can add another rising star to the list: Wes Denzel. The budding rapper/songwriter has been quietly building his career out of San Antonio. He released the EP Every Summer in 2019 and followed up with the full length I Was Almost Happy in late 2020. On I Was Almost Happy, Wes Denzel tells the story of a romantic relationship from start to finish: the highs, the lows, and everything in between.

On his newest full-length album, I Only Get Wild With You, Denzel takes us back into the tumultuous world of a passionate relationship with a collection of tightly constructed songs that showcase his abilities as a storyteller and beatmaker. In his recent Studio 1A visit, Wes Denzel performed two of our favorites from last year’s I Was Almost Happy and ended with a remix of “Screw Up” from his latest release.
