All In The Golden Afternoon: “The Fear And The Flame”

All this week, the Song of the Day spotlights artists performing at SXSW 2017.

Rachel Staggs and Carlos Jackson spent years in the Polyphonic Spree and the Austin band Experimental Aircraft before teaming up as All In The Golden Afternoon. The Alice In Wonderland-inspired name is a clue to the wondrously dark music the pair make. The ingredients are simple but effective: wide-eyed, nursery rhyme vocals matched to pulsating electronics. “The Fear And The Flame” sounds like a ticking clock, tense and atmospheric as it tumbles down a rabbit hole of its own creation.

“The Fear And The Flame” appears on The Fog Is Filled With Spirits, out now.
