All Them Witches: “Dirt Preachers”

Pigeon Forge is a tourist town buried in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. It’s home to Dollywood and a bunch of outlet malls, and it’s one of the most unlikely settings for the gothic country-rock of All Them Witches. The Nashville band recorded its third album in a cabin in the hills overlooking Pigeon Forge, surrounded by solitude yet within sight of the touristy sprawl.

All Them Witches find psychedelia in this odd place, allowing the landscape to creep into the music. “Dirt Preachers”–from Dying Surfer Meets His Maker, out tomorrow via New West–sounds old and weathered, but it’s shot through with a very modern anxiety. Download the song below.
