All this week, the Song of the Day spotlights artists playing Sound On Sound Fest, happening November 4-6.
From their art to their riffs, Austin’s American Sharks sound like a ’70s metal van come to life. Fittingly, these guys are road dogs, having toured with GWAR while also feeding on a steady diet of bonkers local shows (their website URL is, after all, ‘SHARKSPARTYHARD.COM‘).
American Sharks are on the vanguard of Austin bands making our city proud at the upcoming Sound On Sound Fest, and they can certainly hold their own with some of the bigger names on the bill. That’s thanks to songs like “Iron Lungs.” Stoner metal tends to take its time building a buzz, but American Sharks deliver a quick hit of sludgy chords and rapid fire rhythms. The fact that it’s all over in 90 seconds just means you can listen to it again and again.
“Iron Lungs” appears on American Sharks, out now. American Sharks play live in our Studio 1A on Wednesday, November 2 at 8 p.m.; Beerland on Thursday, November 3 as part of Late Knights; and at Sound On Sound Fest on Saturday, November 5 on The Keep stage at 4 p.m.
