All this week, the Song of the Day spotlights artists performing at SXSW 2017.
After putting out four full-length releases as Anya–including last year’s all-women mixtape CAKE, a musical extension of her non-profit of the same name–the Austin-based singer Anastasia decided to change directions. While Anya’s lyrics were typically fueled by social issues in the context of hip-hop, Anastasia’s debut EP Born To Love You finds her taking a more traditional romantic R&B approach.
The live rendition of “You Do” puts Anastasia on par with Beyoncé, proving that a backing track is all a talented singer needs to command a room. Manually triggered vocal effects float over Anastasia’s creamy solo performance, all tied together by a gorgeous instrumental that’s equal parts hip-hop and R&B.
