It can be hard for any artist to get a foot in the door, but for Anna Burch, it was a simple note. Singer and producer Fred Thomas sung her praises to his record label, Polyvinyl, with some direct words: “This is not a drill. You need to hear this.” Sure enough, Polyvinyl agreed with that assessment, and the label plans to release Burch’s debut full-length early next year.
The young singer and songwriter has played around Detroit’s music scene for years, but her own music shies away from the Motor City’s usual high-octane exports. On her single “2 Cool 2 Care,” Burch does sound cool and collected, but it’s anything but careless. The song is a sterling combination of ’60s pop and ’90s bite, tackling a relationship with a diarist’s detail. Listen to the song and watch the music video below.
