Beach Slang’s songs are filled with hard-luck tales and rock-and-roll salvation, but it’s been more of the former lately for the Philly band. Last week, they put out a simple plea: “please stop robbing us.” They’ve been robbed twice in the past year, including in Austin last November.
But Beach Slang’s DIY spirit is keeping the band going, and they’re returning to Austin for a show tonight at the Barracuda. The group takes the Replacements’ scruffy handbook and runs with it, playing arena rock with punk abandon. Last year, Beach Slang showed off this sound live in our Studio 1A. “Hard Luck Kid” is a particularly defiant jam, but let’s hope Beach Slang gets some better luck.
