All this week, the Song of the Day spotlights artists playing Sound On Sound Fest, happening November 4-6.
L.A.’s all-female punk-rock/pop group Bleached have done a lot of living in the time between their debut and sophomore albums: ending unhealthy relationships, eviction, and excess to name a few. Sisters Jen and Jessie Clavin used these demons to dive head-first into making music for the next Bleached record (enlisting bassist Micayla Grace as a fellow songwriter for the first time).
Thus, Welcome The Worms: a portrait of the frivolous nature of L.A.-life. With the help of co-producer Joe Chicarrelli (The Strokes, Morrissey, Elton John), the album hones in on Bleached’s catchy melodies without sacrificing their raw, Greg Ginn-influenced guitar sound. “Sour Candy” is just that: a fun conjunction of surf and punk rock that is purely West Coast, from the sweet melody to the bitter (all too relatable) lyrics.
“Sour Candy” appears on Welcome The Worms, out now. Bleached plays Sound On Sound Fest on Saturday, November 5th, from 4:00-4:40 on the Forest Stage.
