Nashville’s Alicia Bognanno got her musical start as an intern at Electrical Audio studios in Chicago. Its owner, Steve Albini, has been behind the boards for some of the most seminal albums of the past few decades: Nirvana’s In Utero, Pixies’ Surfer Rosa, and dozens more. Bognanno worked fourteen-hour days there, learning not only how to record in different ways but what songs sound best in the studio. She worked this knowledge into her own songwriting, moving back to Nashville to form the four-piece Bully. While Music City is certainly known for country music, there’s a burgeoning punk and garage scene bubbling up, and Bully have quickly grabbed the mantle. Bognanno splits her time between her band, engineering at a Nashville studio, and running live sound at a local club. This tireless work has paid off, as Bully makes their ACL Fest debut this weekend. Download “Milkman” below, and catch Bully out at Zilker Park!
