Each month, we turn a spotlight on a notable local band. Harvest Thieves are January’s KUTX Artist of the Month.
For its brief and beloved existence, Holy Mountain’s de facto house band was Austin’s Harvest Thieves. It helps when your drummer (James Taylor) is also the club owner, but the band also seems to have Holy Mountain’s anything-goes spirit in its DNA. Taylor has since moved to Minneapolis, but Harvest Thieves soldier on with the release of its debut album, Rival, on January 8. It’s an assured first taste from the band, cycling between honky-tonk and house show energy with ease. Even when detailing life’s ups and downs on “Bob Dylan’s 78th Hangover,” Harvest Thieves’ blend of punk and country sounds invigorating. Grab a free download and upcoming show details below.
