All this week, the Song of the Day highlights Fun Fun Fun Fest 2015 artists.
A lot of electronic music focuses on the technology, but Keeper keeps the spotlight squarely on a trio of voices. Yadira Brown, Erin Jantzen, and Lani Camille Thomison have floated around the Austin scene for a few years, collaborating in various one-off projects before teaming up as Keeper in 2013. Their music is alternately lush–like on the Broad City-featured “Happy To Be Sad”–or spare, but Keeper’s otherworldly harmonies are the main through-line.
On Moonhigh, Keeper’s recently-released debut album, the trio puts its ’80s and ’90s influences to good use. They have R&B in their collective DNA, but it’s slightly off-kilter, warped around the production of MoonDoctor (a.k.a. San Antonio’s Antonio Mundaca). Keeper’s self-described “synth-soul” sound is just that on “Not Done”: mechanical but all-too human. Listen to the song below.
