Leti Garza: “El Unico Para Mi”

Formerly known as Leticia Rodriguez, Leti Garza is back with a new record – one that marks her latest exploration and reconstruction of her rich cultural heritage. Raised in Houston and now residing in Austin, Garza initially released her debut retro-vogue Latin album La Americana to critical acclaim in 2012 – even landing a spot on the ballot for Best Tropical Latin Album in the 55th Grammy Awards. Garza’s follow-up EP, Sagüita Al Bate faced similar success and was considered for 57th Grammy Awards for Record of the Year in 2014.

Over two years since then Garza has emerged with El Unico Para Mi – a collection of tunes that further advance Garza’s reputation for channeling Latin composers of the ‘40s and ‘50s as well as the idiosyncratic demeanor of songstresses of the time. The title track is a laid back yet passionate piece complete with seductive instrumental arrangements and an undeniaby captivating vocal performance.

You’ll be able to see Leti Garza live for her album release this Thursday at One-2-One Bar along with Atash and Maracatu Texas. You can also enjoy her work right here on KUTX.
