Over the last four decades, Matthew Sweet has chiseled an incredible career in the rock n roll geode, consistently showcasing his immense songwriting talent and affinity for power-pop-meets-rock music through over a dozen solo albums and collaborations, all the while having his music featured in more than a few soundtracks for movies and television shows. In the last decade, Sweet has dedicated his time to touring and other desires and offers, producing the Bangles 2011 comeback album for his friend and Under the Covers collaborator Susanna Hoffs and playing tribute and benefit shows around the country. Six years since the release of his enigmatic album Modern Art, Sweet (through the demand of a fan-funded kickstarter campaign) returns with Tomorrow Forever, another solid contribution to the name of rock and roll and proof that Matthew Sweet is a treat always worth the wait.
“Trick” possess all the driving guitar riffs and tricks that are distinctly Matthew Sweet, showcased here in a stripped-down version that doesn’t compromise on the savory guitar sounds or the Sweet experience.
“Trick” appears on Tomorrow Forever, out now. Check out the rest of his Studio 1A session here.
