Mirror Travel: “Yesca”

Over the next two weeks, the Song of the Day features SXSW 2016 artists.

Mirror Travel came out of the Red River punk and garage rock scene, but the Austin band has long stood somewhat askew. For starters, most of the members live in New Mexico now. Their sound is bigger too, a heady mix of slow-burning rock that sounds like if Neil Young & Crazy Horse joined forces with the Jesus & Mary Chain.

Mirror Travel’s new album, Cruise Deal, is out today via Modern Outsider. The record was captured in both the band’s storage unit/studio and at Austin’s Big Orange, but this is music that’s best heard outside. “Yesca” is a churning swirl of distortion and huge beats, equally towering and beautiful.
