Next of Kin: “Dimestore Jesus”

Patricia Lim

Austin alt-country sweetheart’s Next of Kin are back with their first new song (and dare I say, bona fide bop) since the release of last year’s Homemaker EP. “Dimestore Jesus” starts fully blossomed with their signature harmonies for a “beautifully honest track about carrying the burden of the savior complex: the tendency to pour everything into fixing someone else while neglecting their own healing.” In a time when new country music often seems either painfully one note or certifiably cringe, Next of Kin continue to be a breath of fresh air, never compromising on vulnerability or afraid to explore some of the darkest experiences of relatability. Next on the horizon? A set at this year’s Lollapalooza Fest in Chicago.

Next of Kin plays the Neon Rodeo Friday, August 21st at ACL Live.
