Quiet Company: “Understand The Problem”

This week the Song of the Day spotlights SXSW 2015 artists. Check back every day for a free download and show information.

The KUTX Artist of the Month understands the burden of success. Austin’s Quiet Company debuted in 2006 with Shine Honesty, a record that laid bare frontman Taylor Muse’s spirituality. The band cultivated a Christian fan base thanks to those spiritual themes and touring on the Christian rock circuit, only to “break up” with religion with 2011’s We Are All Where We Belong. The move lost some fans but gained others: Quiet Company won ten Austin Music Awards that year thanks to the album’s big tent rock appeal.

For the new album Transgressor, Quiet Company decided to tread further down the rabbit hole. Muse says he fully embraced his dark side this time around, resulting in a more aggressive sound. But the distorted riffs are still matched with the band’s unparalleled penchant for good hooks and dynamics. On “Understand The Problem”–recently caught live in Studio 1A–Quiet Company swings a big stick while Muse reveals his deepest insecurities. Download “Understand The Problem” and catch Quiet Company at SXSW 2015.
