Sam Evian: “Need You”

Last year, New York’s Sam Evian released a quietly-stunning solo album called Premium, and now he’s back with a quick three-song EP to support while touring with Nick Hakim, the Districts, and Soccer Mommy. Evian recorded the songs with Chris Cohen, an artist who shares his softly-psychedelic mood, and the two are dialed-in on “Need You.” The dreaminess of the song comes from Evian’s voice, which is light as a feather but able to cut through the chiming, Byrds-like fog with a simple mantra: “I need you.” There are lots of ’60s-indebted artists who can nail the sound, but not many like Evian, who shows off his heart more than his record collection.

“Need You” appears on Need You EP, out October 6 via Saddle Creek. Sam Evian plays the Cactus Cafe on October 12.
