Long before Shakey Graves was filling theaters around the world, Alejandro Rose-Garcia was finding his footing at Austin’s Hole in the Wall, where an early happy-hour residency helped shape the artist he would become. More than a decade later, that connection remains.
In 2026, Shakey brought his annual Shakey Graves Day celebration back to the Hole in the Wall, and for this episode of The Hole Story, he returns with another piece of his origin story: a nearly century-old Gibson archtop he describes as haunted. Recorded just a few days ahead of release of his album Fondness, Etc, Shakey performs new songs and old songs and shares the story of the guitar, its mysterious pull, and the role he believes it played in helping him write some of the songs that first defined Shakey Graves.
