The Vangoes may have a unique sound, but that’s not the only distinctive thing about them – these guys have a determined mission and a powerful message. Their sound is a mix of hip hop, r&b, soul, funk, and blues, and they’re dedicated to inspiring and raising awareness that positive music can change a community for the better. They’re also the public face of F.R.E.S.H., an after-school program run by band leaders Shawn Eliot and Lamar Jones, teaching at-risk kids how to stay off the streets with the help of creative arts. In an effort to publicize their message, the band is currently fundraising to film a documentary about what they are doing and how music can make a positive difference in a community. The Rio Grande Valley-based band recently held a Back 2 School Bash at the Boys and Girls Club in Edinburg, TX, where they gave free BBQ and backpacks to youths in an at-risk community, and they are continuing their quest to inspire through music, which brought them to our studio on Tuesday, August 20th – check out their great performance right here!
