Under the Covers: Roger Miller

Support for KUTX’s Under the Covers comes from Texas Orthopedics.

Roger Miller was born on January 2nd, 1936, in Fort Worth, TX, but grew up in Oklahoma. Born during the Great Depression and one of eight children, Miller grew up picking cotton and plowing on a farm to help sustain his family, but like many others, the Grand Ole Opry playing on the radio inspired him to become a singer-songwriter.

Although he’s often remembered as a country musician, his songs were one of a kind. That’s probably why everyone from Charley Crockett to R.E.M. has covered his music.
