Emily King – Medal

Maile Carballo / KUTX

Each week during Left of the Dial, KUTX Music Director, Rick McNulty shares the best song he heard this week.

Three-time Grammy-nominated New York-born singer/songwriter Emily King debuted back in 2004 with a guest appearance on Nas’ Street Discipline. Since then, she’s honed her mix of pop and traditional soul touring with major artists like John Legend, Alicia Keys, and Erykah Badu.

On her latest record Special Occasion King is introspective and dreamy, inspired by a recent breakup and the turbulent years since 2019’s Scenery.

“Emily King and her collaborator, Jeremy Most, have crafted a joyful summer jam that feels like it was blessed by Prince. In fact, it would have been a single on Parade.”
