Austin Venues Rank Among Highest Grossing Worldwide in 2016
Pollstar has announced its annual list of top-grossing music venues all over the nation and world. This year, more than a couple places in the Live Music Capital made the cut. The lists are broken down into different categories based on venue type. In the world of amphitheater sales, the Frank Erwin Center cracked the global top 100 for the first time (coming in 101st last year) at 91, while coming in at 50th on the national scale. The Austin360 Amphitheater ranked 43rd in the world in the same category. In the category of theater venues, Austin had another couplet of venues make the list: ACL Live came in 57th worldwide, with Bass Concert Hall coming-in at 65th. Keeping in character, Stubb’s ranked 17th worldwide on the club venues list, with Emo’s coming in at 42nd. (Austin360)
Jody Denberg to be Inducted in Texas Music Legends Hall of Fame
The Texas Music Legends Hall of Fame has announced this year’s 10 inductees, and among them is KUTX’s own Jody Denberg. Jody is being inducted along with other songwriters, musicians, and other individuals who continue to nurture the local music community. Denberg is already a featured DJ in the permanent radio exhibit in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For over 35 years, Jody Denberg has been part of the Austin music experience, starting his local radio career at KLBJ in 1981, Denberg left to become KGSR’s program director in 1991. Resurfacing at KUT in 2010 Jody transitioned to KUTX upon the station’s inception. In addition to his influential career in radio, Denberg is also an accomplished music journalist, having been published in everything from Texas Monthly to Rolling Stone. The induction ceremony takes place on January 12th during the Texas Songwriter Association/Austin Songwriters Group Texas Songwriters Symposium. (KUT)
