Tegan and Sara Launch New LGBTQ Advocacy Foundation
Canadian pop-rock duo Tegan and Sara have announced a new foundation aimed at supporting and advocating for LGBTQ girls and women. The sisters admit in a letter published on their website that the “regressive legislature” from President-elect Donald Trump served as a catalyst for creating the now active foundation that will work with group similar to theirs to support “economic justice, health, and representation for LGBTQ girls and women.” (Fader)
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Announced
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have announced its class of 2017 inductees. Pearl Jam, Joan Baez, Tupac Shakur, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, and Journey will be inducted on April 7th of next year at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame also announced that Chic’s Nile Rogers will be given the Award for Musical Excellence (Chic is also releasing its first album in 25 years in 2017). Also announced yesterday were the artists slated to receive Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards, a list that includes Nina Simone, the Velvet Underground, Charley Pride, and Sly Stone. (Rolling Stone)
