Karoodinha and Night + Day Festival Both Cancelled

2017 continues its reputation as the year of the festival graveyard. Fyre Festival, Pemberton, Mysteryland, Pointfest, and now two more join the list, though for totally different reasons.

Karoondinha was set to take place in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania late next month, but yesterday expectant-goers found the festival’s social media outlets gone and their website showing nothing but a logo.

A statement from a Karoondinha rep via Billboard says that in short, the festival spent way too much money on professional fees, tried to put on a festival grander than the demand, and, of course, ticket sales met none of the festival’s expectations. Chance the Rapper, Sturgill Simpson, Paramore, Chromeo, and the Roots were among those lined-up to play. Karoondinha’s organizers say they’re working fast to distribute refunds.

The xx’s Day + Night festival in Iceland has also been canceled, but for greener reasons. The city of Skógafoss, where the Icelandic incarnation of the festival was set to take place, was added this week to the Environment Agency of Iceland’s list of endangered areas. Festival organizers quickly realized that measures to ensure the festival would have minimal or zero impact on the area would not be possible and made the decision to cancel the festival that included Earl Sweatshirt, Sampha, and the xx themselves on the line-up.

Festival organizers were quick to release a statement profusely apologizing for the cancellation, promising a prompt turnaround for refunds, and leaving contact information for any further inquiries, even going as far as to give a daily window of time the inquiry email address will be monitored, all things almost all of these other deceased festivals have failed to do.
