Stranger Things Season 1 Volume 1 Out Tomorrow

The people behind the Netflix sci-fi hit Stranger Things have announced a release date for volume one of the show’s original soundtrack: this Friday, August 12th. The soundtrack, made-up of 70s and 80s rock standards sprinkled around original music composed by Austin musicians Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, who are also members in local soundscape group S U R V I V E, is at least as popular as the show itself, and just as full of early 80s nostalgia. Volume one of the soundtrack will feature 36 tracks named after specific scenes from each episode. Volume 2 will be released next Friday, August 19th, and all of the great non-scored music is currently available as a Spotify playlist here.

2016 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

Four inductees for the 2016 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame were announced this week. Aaron Barker, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Bob Morrison, and the late Townes Van Zandt will join the ranks of Dolly Parton, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash on October 9th at the organization’s annual gala. Collectively, Barker, Chapman, and Morrison have written songs for Faith Hill, country group Lonestar, Willie Neslon, Kenny Rogers, and Johnny Lee. Townes VanZandt’s induction is unanimously being called long overdue, as his career was wildly influential and universally admired. The four inductees push the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame numbers over the bicentennial marker, totaling 203 members.
