POTUS Shares Summertime Playlists
President Obama has released his 2016 Summertime Playlist, which is actually two playlists: one for daytime and one for nighttime. The playlists hold a lot of deep cuts and represent a myriad of genres and artists, with the more upbeat Daytime playlist featuring The Beach Boys, Charles Mingus, Nina Simone, Jay-Z, Australian Courtney Barnett and even Austin’s Gary Clark Jr. The Nighttime playlist is slower, rooted more in R&B and jazz, and includes Esperanza Spaulding, Miles Davis, Chance the Rapper, D’Angelo, Mary J. Blige. Not to be outdone, Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden released their summertime playlist the day after Barry dropped his, though, while being sonically diverse, errs much more on the side of mainstream than the President’s, featuring artists like Frankie Valli, Lady Gaga, Al Green, and Tina Turner.
Flying Lotus Makes Directorial Debut
Over the weekend, Flying Lotus’s directorial debut short film Royal premiered at the Sundance NEXT Fest. In addition to writing and directing the short film (under the pseudonym “steve”), FlyLo also scored the feature. Moviegoers were given some goodies before the feature: stickers, Kleenex, and barf bags. No word if anyone needed the barf bags, but the teaser released on Flying Lotus’s Instagram gives us reason to believe the barf bags may have been very necessary. You can check out the gross-out teaser on our website.
