What’s Going On With Frank Ocean’s New Album?

Frank Ocean has been playing puppet master with the heartstrings of his fans for the last two weeks after announcing a new album and releasing a strange livestream in anticipation of the new album. Called Boys Don’t Cry, Ocean said the album would be released last Friday, fans everywhere lost their minds, then Friday came, and nothing was released. Fans everywhere continued to lose their minds. An app was even created to sign up for a service that would send you a text message as soon as the Frank Ocean album dropped. As far as social media goes, every channel was crawling with discussion about Boys Don’t Cry. Then, last night, Frank Ocean dropped Endless, a visual album debuting new music featuring Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood, James Blake, strings from the London Contemporary Orchestra, and British R&B vocalist Sampha (she’s done work for SBTRKT, Jessie Ware, Drake, and Kanye West) set to video footage of Frank Ocean building a staircase. Rolling Stone confirmed that Endless is a completely separate project from his proper new album, which is apparently no longer called Boys Don’t Cry and is set to be released via Apple this weekend.
