JOHN AIELLI DAY IS A REAL THING AND IT’S TODAY

The City of Austin has declared today, September 1st 2016, John Aielli Day. This month marks 50 years that John Aielli has been on the KUT and KUTX airwaves, starting out as a part-time announcer between classical pieces. By 1970, John’s time slot was dubbed Eklketikos (inspired from the Greek work “eklektos,” meaning chosen from the best), a show he hosted on KUT until moving to newly-formed sister station KUTX in 2013, where the anomaly that is Eklektikos with John Aielli has lived ever since. John Aielli’s encyclopedic knowledge of classical music among other things, unforgettable rarely-relevant anecdotes, wealth of wisdom, and                    long pauses of dead air are all part of what makes John Aielli such an Austin treasure. We want to know how John Aielli has augmented your life or your commute. Use #JohnAielliDay to share your stories and celebrations.

New Title for World Record of Most Expensive Record Sold at Auction

Each year, Guinness World Records updates a plethora of awards with new record holders, and this year, one of the categories seeing a new holder is the record for Most Expensive Ever Sold at Auction. Beating out the previous title-holder is a nearly-mint condition mono copy of the Beatles’ White Album previously owned by Ringo Starr, which sold for $790,000 after being stored in a vault for 35 years. The money went to Starr’s Lotus Foundation, which raises funds aimed at “advancing social welfare.” (FACT Mag)
