Monte Warden and the Wagoneers – “Doghouse Flowers”

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more veteran Austin musician than Monte Warden. Raised up in the Austin music scene, by 15, he was helping two-steppers shuffle their boots across dance floors and winning Austin Music Awards with his band Whoa, Trigger! In 1989, 20-year-old Monte Warden and his band The Wagoneers appeared at the very first SXSW. By the end of the festival, they landed a record deal that led to one of the defining albums of contemporary honky tonk, Stout and High. Since then, Warden has only burnished his country music bona fides with songwriting credits on hits by George Strait, Patty Loveless, and Carrie Underwood, to name just a few.
Now, nearly 40 years after the Wagoneers stepped onto the national stage, we’re excited to share the band’s newest single, an absolute ripper of a rockabilly number, “Doghouse Flowers.” You can bet we’re dusting off our boots in anticipation of more new music from these Austin legends.
The Animeros – “La Camita”

We’ve added every single from The Animeros’ upcoming Dan Auerbach-produced album, ¡Qué Bárbaro!, to rotation here at KUTX because they’re just that damn good.
Their newest single is a cover of the early 70s Peruvian rock group Traffic Sound’s “La Camita.” And like the song’s originators, The Animeros blend classic rock guitar riffs with warbling organ for a sound that lands somewhere between trippy and traditional. Mind-altering substances or not, The Animeros might just be the best dance party going on in Austin right now.

Quentin – “Lucy in Disguise”

Named after the beloved South Congress costume shop that shuttered in 2022, KUTX July Artist of the Month Quentin says “Lucy in Disguise” is a love letter to identity, self-acceptance, and the city of Austin. On this power pop anthem, Quentin brings Lenny Kravitz-levels of raw magnetism to an exploration of both the masculine and feminine sides of their identity — equal parts swagger and sensuality.
Quentin performs their debut album TOMGIRL at a release show on July 24 at Factory on 5th. Doors at 7, showtime at 8, and attendees are encouraged to make a $9 donation benefiting the SIMS Foundation.
Orca Dork X BRUTE – “Letter of Intent ”

Like the mischievous aquatic apex predator known to interrupt leisure cruises across the Pacific, multi-instrumentalists, beatmakers, and brothers Franklin and Gram Pittman—aka Orca Dork—like to toy with listeners before luring them into deceptively complex arrangements. Your last thought will probably be ‘That’s so sick’ before you’re pulled under.
Fans of Ancient Astronauts and DJ Shadow will appreciate the rich sonic landscapes the Austin duo builds on “Letter of Intent.” Expertly blended atmospheric beats and samples pulled from a 1904 comedy album swirl around bruising bars from rising Minnesota rapper BRUTE, making every line land harder.
With “Letter of Intent,” Orca Dork has officially put KUTX on notice.
Sweet Limb – “Go (ft. J Soulja)”

On “Go,” Sweet Limb taps fellow Austin rapper J Soulja to help capture the internal monologue that can tear you down just as easily as it builds you up. Chris Robinson, who performs as Sweet Limb, plays the voice of doubt and self-destruction, delivering the gut-punch admission that “why we only learn from a fuck up,” J Soulja arrives as the counter — a spiritual guide turning despair into hustle and urging everyone in earshot to strive harder and lift up the people around them while they’re at it. It’s vulnerable, it’s strong, and it’s a reminder to check in on your loved ones — and yourself.
