An (Extra) Awesome Wave

Alt-J continues their tenth anniversary celebration of their fantastical debut, An Awesome Wave, but its actual anniversary was in May last year, with commemorations including an Alt-J global concert broadcast, an entire podcast feature about An Awesome Wave, and a London show at which the band performed the album in its entirety. The 2012 jarring, angular art rock release proved a pivotal moment for the Leeds band, earning them the 2012 British Mercury Prize for its inventive experimental approach to incredibly infectious pop. An Awesome Wave also made its way onto several of the year’s top-album lists worldwide – even if an imperious few just didn’t get it.

This year, an anniversary tour brings Alt-J to the ATX for two dates: tomorrow, Thursday Nov. 9, and Friday Nov. 10, at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater. Doors at 7 p.m. both nights. Two local bands are playing the Alt-J afterparties: Telecom tomorrow, and The Stacks on Friday, in Stubb’s indoor venue following each concert.
