Are you ready? Absolute legends share the stage with rising stars at this weekend’s celebration.
Clifford Antone started what was originally Antone’s Blues Festival in 1999 because he was obsessed. Only a love so deep could get someone to create an event like this for a huge space, because so many of the blues artists Antone wanted to host would be too big a draw to fit into his nightclub.
It was a great three-year run, but the love lives on with Austin Blues Festival, now in its second year at the 5,000-seat Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Greenway. And it’s another phenomenal line-up this weekend, showcasing a great mix of legendary performers with outstanding rising stars in the blues and beyond.
Buddy Guy is tonight’s headliner, with this afternoon’s bill featuring Dumpstaphunk, The Blind Boys of Alabama & Bobby Rush, Nathan and the Zydeco Cha-Chas starting out the day at 1 p.m., and more, along with a glorious second line parade led by the Original Pinettes Brass Band at 5 p.m.
Tomorrow’s bill shines with headliner and AMM fave Brittany Howard, Robert Glasper, Big Freedia, Cimafunk and more, with Robert Finley kicking off day two of the festival at 1 p.m.
